Finding Out and Spilling the Beans

Preston and I found out that we were going to have a baby back in November. It's easy for me to remember the exact day because it was the 3 year anniversary to the day we got engaged....November 1st. Oddly enough we were in San Francisco, CA. Preston had a business trip there and I was just going along for the ride. It was really a fun trip. For the week before I suspected that I was pregnant and so then on the second day of our trip (which happend to be the right time to take an early response test) I took a test. Sure enough there was a faint blue line. Preston didn't fully believe it (since it was faint I guess) until the second test that I took after we were home. I never doubted. I think I "knew" before I ever had the proof. That was a Saturday so Preston didn't have to go to his conference so the two of us and our embryo had a fun day sight seeing. We even bought an itty bitty San Francisco T-shirt.

We decided to wait a while to tell friends and family. We wanted some time to not only make sure everything was alright at the doctor's apt but also to adjust to the idea and have some time for ourselves to talk about it and have "our little secret". We might not have waited as long as we did if things didn't fall the way they did with family. We told Preston's family over our Thanksgiving trip to Washington DC and then told my family a week later when we went to Emory. I think the hardest time waiting was in that week. By then we were just ready for everyone to know. We told both families by giving them a gift box full of goodies...grandparenting books, picture frames for Aunts and Uncles, grandparent name ideas, etc. That was all really fun to see how excited and SHOCKED everyone was at the idea of a grandbaby and neice or nephew. (By the way this is the first grandchild on both sides.)
