The First Trimester

My first trimester was pretty good compared to a lot of my friends and family that I have talked to. I only had about 3 weeks of feeling just pretty bad. And lucky for me I have still not thrown up (except when I was in Colorado and had altitude sickness.) Unfortunately, the very middle week during those yucky three weeks was the worst and that was when we went to Washington DC with the Wattersons. It's really a shame since I was looking so forward to that trip. I'd say that I felt good about 20% of the time we were there. I think some of the problem was being away from home and routine. Once I got home things started looking up. First Trimester was filled with changes in my body. I don't understand why pregnancy would even affect most of those things. Like for instance, there was a month or so that I just had way too much spit in my mouth...I mean, gross. But sure enough I read about it in my pregnancy book and it's just something that happens to some moms. Mom...that's a weird word that I'll have to get used to. Anywho, here's a few other changes that happened: I had to have food in my stomach at all times or I would feel sick, I had to visit the ladies room like a million times a day, my face broke out like I was in Jr. High again, I felt bloated, and I felt very tired. Most of these things have since gone away or at least eased up. There were many times when we were on our way out to dinner and I would just have to have something to eat before we left. This made no sense to Preston, but he soon learned not to voice his opinion about it...I was going to eat, like it or not. :)

Our baby's first picture was taken at the 8 week appointment! It was really cool to see and we can't wait to see how different it is next week when I have another ultrasound -->

Christmas was really fun and the baby even had a stocking. We went skiing but like I mentioned before I had altitude sickness (which apparently is intensified when you are pg). I skiied half a day the first day and that's about it. It kind of seems to me like the new year was a turning point for me. All those weird things started to go away and I even had more energy. Finally at the end of my 1st trimester I had gained a whole pound....but since then the pounds have come MUCH faster...
